ATEME SA, a world leader in H.264 video compression technology today announced that RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana), Italy’s public broadcaster, has chosen the Kyrion H.264 encoding solution. RAI Production will use the Kyrion encoders during the coverage of live events, such as the Beijing Olympics, where bandwidth is at a premium. Kyrion allows for real-time video encoding at bit rates that are half that of legacy MPEG-2 equipment. With the Kyrion solution, RAI is able to ensure a high quality service while benefiting from the bandwidth efficiency of ATEME’s H.264 video compression.
